Ripple: an icebreaker that gets the whole room mixing
In-room, with a virtual option
Everyone’s phone shows a 4-digit code. Find someone you haven’t met, type their code, they tap Yes, and both phones show the same conversation starter. You score for every new person, more for someone from another team. Underneath, two ideas you name (say “Ask the copilot” and “Draft it yourself”) spread secretly from a few starters with every pairing. At the end, the big screen reveals which one took the room and who met the most people.
How it works
- Open a Ripple room. Choose Ripple when you host. Add your teams or departments (players pick theirs), use table numbers, or skip teams. Name the two ripples, or keep Team Coffee and Team Tea.
- Meet someone new. Type the code on their phone; they confirm. Both phones show a thank-you, compliment or fun-fact prompt and a chat timer. A nudge suggests a team you haven’t met yet.
- The ripples spread. A few people secretly start each ripple. Meet someone who carries one and you catch it; when two ripples meet, the person who has met more people passes theirs on. Nobody is told who carries what.
- Watch the map. The big screen shows how far the ripples have reached in every team, the number of pairings and the share across teams.
- The reveal. After 8 to 15 minutes the big screen names the ripple that took the room, and everyone who carried it shares the win. The most connected people get a shout-out.
